In gathering data for this forecast Yole investigated the use of the following sensors: accelerometers, barometers, electrochemical biosensors, flow sensors, gyroscopes, humidity sensors,

IR temperature sensors, magnetometers, temperature sensors, magnetometers, microfluidic chips, microphones, photodetectors, pressure sensors, proximity IR sensors, RF MEMS, RFID and strain sensors.

Collectively, these sensors have numerous applications in the home care market, from fall detection systems to monitoring tremors in Parkinson’s disease.

Sensors for home health care fall into five major segments: smart drug delivery; patient safety; diagnostics; continuous patient monitoring; and patient comfort. The three most-used sensors in home health care systems at present are photodetectors, pressure sensors, and electrochemical sensors.

One of the key trends in the market is the significance and immaturity of ICT systems to deliver key information between patients and remote care providers. A second is that the various sensors in use – pressure, inertial, flow and other, are ready to be integrated in application-specific combinations.
