Seoul Semi quadruples LED production capacity
With the launch of mass production in Ansan 2, the company’s capacity raises from 1 billion to 4 billion LED packages per month. This drastic increase in production capacity will allow the Seoul Semiconductor to significantly reduce unit costs. In addition, the new facilities help the Seoul Semi to meet the market requirements in terms of quality, the company said.
The market for LED Lighting is booming at a growth rate of 30 percent per year. Market researcher McKinsey estimates the global LED Lighting market will have a volume of 65 billion euros in 2016, accounting for almost 60 percent of the global lighting market.
Seoul Semiconductor’s new manufacturing facility has an area of 52.000 square meters; the cleanroom alone is 20.000 square meters wide. The entire campus is equipped with LED-driven lighting fixtures for interior lighting as well as for outdoor lighting. The move has not only a symbolic value for Seoul Semiconductor as one of the world’s largest LED manufacturers: The company could cut its energy bill by 40 percent.
