September sees foundries’ lacklustre sales continue

Taiwan’s two leading foundries posted annual declines in their September sales figures with TSMC looking likely to fulfil its earlier prediction of a 10 percent down year.
TSMC’s September sales were down 13.4 percent on September 2022 while UMC’s September sales were down by 24.5 percent. In TSMC’s case the sales decline can be tied to the delayed pick up of its 3nm manufacturing process by the mobile phone sector due to global economic conditions.
TSMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) announced sales of NT$180 billion (about US$5.61 billion) for September. This was a 4.4 percent sequential drop. Revenue for January through September of 2023 totalled NT$1.536 trillion (about US$47.76 billion), a decline of 6.2 percent compared to the first nine months of 2022.
UMC’s September sales were NT$19.05 billion (about US$592 million). UMC’s year-to-date sales were about NT$167 billion (about US$5.21 billion). This figure is down 20.5 percent compared with the first nine months of 2022.
