Emitting at 850nm, the new LED is primarily targeted at eye-tracking systems in augmented and virtual reality headsets where multiple infrared LEDs illuminate users’ eyes and capture the light reflected back with camera sensors. The eye-tracking systems then compute the position of the user’s pupil and work out what direction the user is looking in.
With a footprint of just 1.0×0.325×0.55mm, the new Firefly can fit into glasses around the eyepieces of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) headsets. The LED is a sidelooker with an a low height of just 0.325mm.
