The French company who is already offering nationwide coverage in France, Spain, The Netherlands and the UK, will use the funds to extend its IoT communication infrastructure across Europe, ensure global coverage across the USA and venture in Asia and South America thanks partnering telecom operators such as Telefónica, SK Telecom et NTT Docomo Ventures.
Other partners include Elliott Management Corporation and industrial partners GDF SUEZ, Air Liquide and Eutelsat, joining as capital investors.
According to Anne Lauvergeon, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Sigfox, the contribution of global telecom operators shows the complementarity of high-bandwidth cellular networks with low-bandwidth bidirectional IoT solutions.
In the long term, Lauvergeon would expect both solutions to be unified, offering a flexible connectivity and more bandwidth and power management options (offloading data from high-bandwidth networks to low bandwidth networks when it makes sense, while cutting on power consumption).
