Silego, eFabless launch ‘fun’ design challenge

The competition will comprise a series of design challenges that can be completed using using GreenPAK configurable mixed-signal ICs (CMICs) from Silego and the accompanying drag-and-drop software. Efabless, which supports community engineering as part of its business model, is providing the source design platform on which the CMIC hardware designs will be submitted.

The competition is also intended to be a step to establishing a marketplace for CMIC designs.

Competitors will be asked to submit 10 separate designs based on 10 commonly used functions. Two challenges will be announced every two weeks until November 27 with gradually and gently increasing complexity. Winners will be announced monthly. Rewards will include Amazon gift cards and the latest high tech products.

At the end of the ten-week period there will also be a grand prize of a MacBook or fully loaded Microsoft Surface computer.

Mike Noonen, vice president of sales and business development at Silego, told eeNews Europe: “The tasks aren’t too difficult. Basic engineering knowledge is expected but these tasks should take a couple of hours at most – including familiarization with the tools. But we may give prizes for speed of response as well as for the completeness and elegance of a solution.”

Next: Four goals

Noonen added: “With this Challenge, we are looking to achieve four goals: first, establish that crowd-sourced hardware designs can be successful; second, create awareness for the efabless platform; third, teach more people about CMICs; and last but not least, have fun. Silego is thrilled to partner with the inventive and imaginative efabless team.”

Lucio Lanza, Managing Director of Lanza techVentures stated, “The future IoT network, consisting of billions of connections, will be realized through easily configurable semiconductors and a creative and powerful analog design community. The design community will be connected via efabless, and Silego will provide the Configurable Mixed-signal IC technology.”
