With capital investments since 2012 totaling more than $7M USD, SDI’s expanded operations include brand-new sense element and chip fabrication; a state-of-the-art cleanroom; new product quality testing equipment; and additional 4” MEMS wafer manufacturing. The expansion encompasses 5000 square foot of fully dedicated integrated space on the first floor of the new building. Included among the new MEMS fabrication equipment are brand-new custom ovens, shakers and survivability testing technologies that are completely unique and proprietary to the company.

With its now-doubled production capacity, Silicon Designs shall be meeting the ever-increasing customer demand for its MEMS-based accelerometer chips and modules, while continuing investments in R&D and new wafer formulations for enhanced durability, stability, shock survivability and temperature performance. In particular, the expansion allows Silicon Designs to increase production of its 1521 low-noise high-performance MEMS variable capacitive accelerometer series by fifty-fold, to support unprecedented industry product demand.

All Silicon Designs products are designed, developed, manufactured, assembled and tested in the USA. Tightly integrated vertical manufacturing processes allow the company to carefully monitor every aspect of product quality, from wafer production down to finished modules, resulting in high-quality products at an exceptionally competitive cost, offered with some of the industry’s shortest lead times. Short-to-medium sized quantities are available for immediate shipping, with 3-5 week standard lead times for larger quantities.
