Silicon Motion’s new Graphics Display SoC enables multiple displays at 4K ultra high definition through USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi interfaces. Target applications include USB display docking station/adapters, USB monitors, zero/thin clients, point-of-sales terminals, wireless display, digital signage, video conferencing system and etc.
SMI’s Display SoC not only can connect to host through PCI-Express. It can also connect to laptop/PC through integrated USB 3.0 interface. SMI’s CAT™(Content Adaptive Technology) uses multiple image/video processing algorithms to compress display data and minimize bandwidth usage. At the same time, CAT uses minimal host CPU usage to achieve low latency and high quality displays.
Additionally, SMI Display SoC has integrated VPU (Video Processing Unit) to accelerate H.264/MPEG4 decoding. Embedded ARM Cortex R5 processor enables RTOS (Real-time OS) execution of timing critical and fast response applications. The optional integrated 256MB DDR3 memory through Multi-chip module (MCM) package can save PCB space and reduce total system cost.
