Silo AI creates Europe’s largest industrial generative AI lab

One of Europe’s largest private AI labs is expanding with the acquisition of a Nordic AI development centre.
Silo AI is to acquire Combient’s AI subsidiary Combient Mix in a strategic deal to create Europe’s largest private generative AI lab. The deal will increase European competitiveness by accelerating the adoption of industrial AI.
The combination of Silo AI and Combient Mix will create the largest pure-play AI company in Europe with 300+ experts, around half of whom hold a PhD in computer vision, language technology, machine learning or other relevant fields.

“Entering the generative AI era, Europe must establish a critical mass in AI. This unique partnership harnesses cutting-edge AI research, a proven AI-driven product development history, and the robust industrial strength of the Nordics,” said Tero Ojanperä, Silo AI’s Executive Chairman and co-founder.
Silo AI is one of Europe’s largest private AI labs for smart devices, autonomous vehicles, industry 4.0, and smart cities and has offices in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and Canada.
Combient brings together 35 of the largest companies in the Nordics, such as Atlas Copco, Epiroc, Ericsson, H&M, Husqvarna, KONE, SAAB, SAS, SEB, Stora Enso and Wärtsilä. Combient Mix develops AI and data in industry through long-term partnerships in co-developing AI-driven products and solutions.
The two companies will continue to serve Combient’s associated companies, strengthened through Silo AI’s world-class AI expertise and the industrial application expertise of Combient Mix.

“This partnership is a natural step towards building a European AI flagship,” said Peter Sarlin, CEO and co-founder of Silo AI. “What Marcus Wallenberg and Mats Agervi initiated in 2015, with some of the strongest Nordic companies, has now become Nordics’ leading cross-industry collaboration network. We’re impressed by Combient Mix with Ali Sarrafi at the front, and see Combient Group as a unique partner in accelerating the industrial adoption of AI in Europe.”
“This is a significant step towards accelerating the adoption of AI in industries across Europe and will create a stronger, more competitive European AI ecosystem. I’m proud of what Combient Mix has built up during these years. Together with Silo AI’s strong competence as well as their commercial operation, this partnership will contribute to a more successful Combient Group,” said Mats Agervi, CEO and founder of Combient.
Silo AI plans to continue the close collaboration with research partners such as WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program), leading universities and other essential players in the European AI ecosystem, while also continuing to advance the development of large language models (LLMs) and applicable tooling to build trustworthy, robust and reliable LLMs through Silo AI subsidiary SiloGen.
