Single pair Ethernet SPE switch for 50W power over 1km links
Weidmüller has launched an unmanaged switch to boost single pair Ethernet connections to over 1000m with 50W of power.
The 10Base-T1L SPE switch developed by Weidmüller increases the range of the Internet connection to over 1km with two-wire cables enabling parallel power transmission.
The transmission of data over long distances and across different levels is a major challenge in many industrial applications. In some cases, energy must also be transmitted from the switch to the sensor in addition to the data.
The unmanaged 10Base-T1L SPE switch ensures reliable data transmission over distances of up to 1km., compared to conventional RJ45-based Ethernet with a range of 100m. The performance is also significantly higher with 10 Mbit/s bandwidth compared to the RS485 standard over a similar distance. The connector face of the SPE connection is suitable for industrial use, which prevents micro-interruptions in the transmission.
The 10Base-T1L-SPE switch also supports of Power over Data Line (PoDL) up to Class 15. This enables a power supply of up to 50 watts to the end device. Features such as SCCP and Forcemode simplify the setup of the power supply for new devices.
The SPE technology is particularly suited to environments with limited space as it can carry both data and power so that only one cable needs to be laid. This also enables cost-effective connection of sensors in various industrial scenarios by using copper cables instead of expensive fibre optic technology. The copper cable also offers larger bending radii and reduced installation effort, as no splicing is necessary.
The Quality of Service (QoS) function in the 10Base-T1L-SPE switch enables resource distribution in the network and ensures that data traffic is prioritized. This gives important applications priority and bandwidth can be used optimally. This feature also achieves PROFINET Class A conformity, which enables seamless connection to PROFINET-compatible networks.
