This offers solution providers and system developers the utmost flexibility and allow them to standardise RFID systems, while giving the customer complete freedom to select the appropriate transponder. The reader can also be put to use in RFID migration projects such as those in which access solutions are elevated to a new RFID standard, yet still draw on the previous stock of RFID cards. It is equally adept in situations when multiple locations are being used alongside a variety of different technologies.

The TWN4 covers almost all transponders operating on a frequency of 125 kHz, 134.2 kHz or 13.56 MHz, all in one reader. The reader comes in two versions, the TWN4 MIFARE NFC and the TWN4 Legic NFC, making it form factor-compatible with earlier versions in the TWN3 family. The MIFARE DESfire transponder-platform module family was the focus of particular attention during the development stage as it is currently being used in a wide range of security applications. To this end, Elatec provides a comprehensive API that makes it much easier for developers to implement DESfire communication. The module can be connected via USB, RS-232, serial TTL, I2C and CLOCK/DATA interfaces. The multi-standard, multi-frequency reader comes in a compact module for 50-Ohm external antennas under the label ‘TWN4 Core’.
