SiTime launches timing MEMS for 5G infrastructure
The Emerald series of devices are described as OCXO although they are not crystal oscillators. They will serve to replace oven-controlled crystal oscillator market with performance benchmarks that are 20x improved. This allows for ease of use as it is no longer necessary to avoid heat stressors in terms of PCB layout.
The SiT5711 and SiT5712 are programmable up to 220MHz and offer a ΔF/ΔT dynamic stability: ±50 ppt/degree C typical. Regulators are provided in package so no need for external LDOs or ferrite beads.
At 9mm by 7mm the package is 75 percent smaller than common OCXO footprints although adapter boards are available to match. With a height of 6.5mm the component is 40 percent thinner.
This all contributes to 20x better vibration resistance, making Emerald suitable for outdoor pole mounted equipment. Supports -40 to +85 degree C temperature range today, -40 to +95 degree C and -40 to +105 degree C support available in the near future.
“By combining our revolutionary MEMS with programmable analog, innovative packaging and high-performance algorithms, we have created a solution that is up to 20 times better than what is currently available,” said Rajesh Vashist, CEO of SiTime, in a statement.
Samples of the Emerald MEMS OCXO SiT5711/12 are available now for qualified customers. Production quantities will be available in Q2 2019 and stocked at catalog distributors such as Digi-Key and Mouser.
