The plans came to light as SK Hynix submitted an investment letter of intent. However, the plan to build the four fabs wont happen until after 2022.
“We will invest 120 trillion won in the new semiconductor site and fabs over the next 10 years after 2022, at least. It is indeed a long-term investment plan and our strategy may change depending on the market condition,” Reuters quoted an SK Hynix spokeswoman, as saying.
SK Hynix operates two production sites in South Korea and one at Wuxi, China. The Wuxi fab has been in operation since 2006 and currently accounts for about 50 percent of SK Hynix’s DRAM production.
