Small integrated voltage regulator delivers 97.5 percent efficiency
The IR3823 delivers up to 3 A with superior efficiency in an ultra-compact 3.5×3.5mm package. Efficiencies in excess of 97.5% are obtainable for designs converting power from a 6 V input to a 4.8 V output. The extremely high initial efficiency allows switching at up to 1.5 MHz from a 12 V supply to enable a complete 3 A power supply solution in less than 130 mm². Featuring constant frequency and virtually jitter-free operation with synchronization capability, the new device is well suited to noise-sensitive applications, while the higher bandwidth reduces component count to shrink PCB footprint. A tri-level selectable soft-start feature is also offered for ease of sequencing.
The IR3823 features programmable switching frequency from 300 kHz to 1.5 MHz. Other key functions include thermally compensated over-current protection, output over-voltage protection and thermal shutdown.
A user friendly, interactive, SupIRBuck tool enables the rapid selection and simulation of selected SupIRBuck products. A SupIRBuck Excel spreadsheet design tool and Icepak thermal model are also available.
The IRDC3823 SupIRBuck reference design featuring the new device is also offered.
