Smart light networking delivers data through LEDs

By eeNews Europe

Called ‘LuBi-Net’ the data transmission networking technology enables high-speed data transmission with a lighting control system. ETRI’s VLC networking technologies are able to remotely control the light intensity, transmit videos via wireless communications, measure various types of sensors, and remotely monitor power consumption so long as network transmission devices are attached to existing communications networks using the new technology.

The researchers claim that download speeds of 3 Mbps will also be feasible which would allow LuBi-Net to deliver a large amount of data at a speed more akin to an Internet service. Controlling light and transmitting data using LAN, Wi-Fi, and other communications methods will also be possible.

ETRI believes the technology solution will be used at home for controlling electronic devices like TVs, computers and smartphones as well as enable the devices to communicate with one another in business and urban environments using LED lighting systems to provide ‘smart light networking’ solutions for a wide range of applications.
