Lui is an experienced chemical engineer and executive and has also served on many party committees during his career.

The statement said Gao has no disagreement with the board of directors and that there is “no information in relation to his cessation to serve as an executive director that needs to be brought to the attention of the shareholders of the company.”

Liu has been appointed chairman of the board, executive director of the company and the chairman of the nomination committee of the board with effect from 17 July 2023.

Lui is presently vice chairman of Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Development Co., Ltd. (SCIP) and also serves as also serves as member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, vice president of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, president of Shanghai Society for Advanced Materials.

SMIC continues to be led by co-CEOs Zhao Haijun and Liang Mong Song.
