Software-based GeoSoft RAN virtual probe cuts costs of RAN monitoring
Recent research among Tektronix Communications’ customers suggests that approximately 70 percent of subscriber reported network issues originated in the RAN. However, traditionally, mining data from deep within the RAN has been both a complex and costly exercise. The company’s virtual GeoSoft RAN software provides a more flexible, lower cost alternative, supporting the needs of RAN network operations and engineering teams responsible for troubleshooting and responding to these network issues.
“Radio access network operations and engineering teams spend numerous hours manually troubleshooting with tools like drive testing and toggling among as many as 15 tools used that could be consolidated into just one or two,” said Robert Froehlich, Director of Radio Access Solutions, Tektronix Communications. “The cost savings from our RAN software solutions and the GeoSoft RAN virtual probe gives these teams an opportunity for phenomenal productivity improvements with quick payback. This is an extreme improvement especially as operators look to build out from 2G and 3G to LTE networks.”
As recently addressed in Tektronix Communications’ 4D TIP Report, detailing the emergence of the Telecommunications Intelligence Provider, to remain competitive, today’s mobile network operators need to focus on four dimensions – Subscriber behavior, the Services they consume, the Technologies they use, and Network performance required to support their needs.
The products released at CTIA Wireless are designed to address each of these dimensions, offering high value data to a variety of users from RAN network operations, engineering and core network operations through to customer care and marketing. Together, they give mobile operators a complete end-to-end view with actionable intelligence gathered from the network’s core to the edge, from database to device.
These products are detailed below:
GeoSoft RAN for the Radio Access Network: Among subscribers who call their service providers to report problems, an estimated 70 percent of issues are found in the radio access network (RAN). Troubleshooting these issues with core network monitoring is often inefficient, ineffective requiring extremely costly hardware.
GeoSoft RAN extends 24×7 monitoring to the access network, via software, providing the most cost-effective comprehensive troubleshooting from core to RAN, regardless of equipment manufacturer, with integrated geographical map capabilities visible from our Iris Session Analyzer and TrendNavigate applications.
Touchpoint ProAction for Customer Care: Touchpointhelps Tier 1-3 customer care organizations reduce support costs and expedite issue resolution. ProAction enables proactive data analysis to help prevent customer issues from ever materializing.
Touchpoint now features Web usability enhancements with drill down Iris Session Analyzer, as well as call quality management (CQM) support for corporate accounts and cell radius of location visibility.
Touchpoint for Corporate Account Management: With revenues from enterprise mobility expected to rise twice as fast as consumer-related revenues over five years, winning and retaining corporate customers is now a major priority. Mobile service providers must strive to differentiate through the quality of services being delivered to their high value enterprise customers.
Built on top of the award winning Touchpoint software platform, our Corporate Account Management (CAM) solution provides optimized workflows for Account Managers and Corporate Care Managers with a state of the art user interface. Primarily targeted towards the B2B segment, CAM can easily be extended into the realms of machine to machine (M2M) and VIP subscriber management.
Iris Performance Intelligence (IPI), Iris Session Analyzer (ISA) and Iris Traffic Analyzer (ITA) for Media Assurance: With Over The Top applications encroaching on service provider revenues by the day, Quality of Experience (QoE) and security are the way to get a leg up on the “free” voice and video alternatives.
Leveraging the Iris suite of applications, our Media Assurance solutions help service providers assure the quality, performance and delivery of today’s all-IP voice, conversational and streaming video services.
Roaming and Interconnect Assurance (RIA) for LTE Roaming: Where roaming is concerned, having the right partners and the right management tools in place can help protect and boost revenue streams.
With RIA, service providers get performance management with reporting on incoming and outgoing roamers from surrounding networks, regardless of technology domain, LTE, 3G or 2G.
ISA and ITA for AAA/Policy/Services & Diameter Monitoring: Mobile service providers are adopting Diameter signaling and Diameter routing agents (DRA) at a rapid pace as LTE network deployments ramp up across the globe. However, without proper monitoring, Diameter signaling storms can cause major network outages. ISA and ITA now feature support for this important protocol and capabilities to both analyze failed sessions and streamline planning efforts.
Spectra2 XL3 for IMS and EPC Test for LTE: As mobile service providers plan and expand complex LTE and mixed 3G/LTE networks globally, they must test multiple dimensions of their network, including Diameter signaling, which is a critical IMS and EPC protocol for monetizing the network that can also have serious impacts on subscriber Quality of Experience (QoE). Spectra2 XL3 enables equipment manufacturers and service providers to markedly reduce the capital and operational costs associated with testing IMS and EPC elements.
