Software brings clarity to automotive wiring harness diagrams
With the model-based approach of PREEvision, E/E architects and cable harness developers work on the same database and thus hand in hand: developers use the models created during the architectural design and refine them further. Architects can in turn use the designed wiring harness for further architectural decisions. PREEvision 9.5.4 now makes it possible to use the auto-layout function to view the model in an uncomplicated way, which is relevant for your own work.
For architects the focus is on the overall system, for cable harness developers subsystems and for those responsible for components individual control units. They all create their own views based on model data in two stages: Firstly, starting from a component, the associated connectors, cables, separation points and control units are automatically aggregated in a diagram. In a second step, the auto-layout function for wiring harness diagrams clearly arranges the components and wiring harness details. The algorithm avoids crossing wires, so the diagrams are also easy to read on paper or as a PDF file.
In addition to further improvements in the diagram framework, PREEvision 9.5.4 offers a refined modelling language: It now also allows slots in fuse and relay boxes for KBL 2.4 and supports line types including colours and colour combinations – typical requirements in series development. Process support has also been further expanded: The step-by-step development and refinement of the wiring harness is facilitated by comprehensive product line management. Its library and reuse concepts and simplified variant management promote routine and efficient modelling.
