Solar module efficiency exceeds 43 percent
In the CPV technology, the cells are typically implemented as multi-junction cells. In geographic regions with high direct sun irradiation, this technology is ideal to generate electricity out of renewable sources at low cost. In 2014, ISE along with partners Soitec and CEA Leti had set an efficiency record for a quad-junction. The mini-module recently introduced to the public is based on the multi-junction solar cell similar to the 2014 record cell, but additional concentrator optics has been added, resulting in another record value for the efficient conversion of solar radiation into electric power.
“This is a new milestone for the CPV technology and highlights the potential of this technology for future industrial implementations”, commented Andreas Bett, deputy manager at Fraunhofer ISA (Freiburg, Germany).
