LED connections that do without manual soldering process offer many advantages, since soldering is a time-consuming and demanding process. LEDs are difficult to solder, and there is always a risk of damaging the light emitting area through traces of the solder flux. In addition, solder connections are difficult to undo. In the course of the time, they can become a weak spot that potentially can affect the reliability of the connection. Moreover, the heat associated to the soldering process can be transferred to the LED and reduce its lifetime. In contrast, solderless sockets enable uniform connection and a solid but easily to open connection that does not require any heating.

The one-piece connector is equipped with the proven poke-in termination of AWG-18-22 solid wire, prebond stranded AWG18-20 wires and stranded AWG 18 wires. The installation of the COB-L LED is simplified by utilizing a locator – a plastic frame that is first placed on the heat sink to correctly orient the LED in its position prior to socket attachment. At the same time, this locator offers mechanical protection for the LED’s ceramic edges. In addition, the integrated polarity reversal protection guarantees safe and durable connection. The combination of all these properties eliminates manual work which in turn helps to save time and costs.

The socket has been custom-designed for Nichia’s chip-on-board LEDs and is suited for a broad range of applications including sales room lighting, recessed spots in industry and trade as well as hall lighting. The product meets the UL1977 requirements for deployment in UL-8750 applications and is RoHS compliant.
