Sony 13Mpixel sensor offers better video
The IMX214 stacked CMOS image sensor offers an additional feature – spatially multiplexed exposure (SME) – to support high-resolution HDR for both video and still imaging. This is a step up from the established IMX135, which only supports HDR on video up to 1080P. The IMX214 can support 60fps at this resolution.
The sensor is 0.25-inch (5.867mm) diagonal size with 13.13 million effective pixels. It has a reduced-height backside-illuminated structure and supports MIPI D-PHY ver.1.1 at a maximum rate of 1.2Gbps per lane.

As well as appealing to smartphone manufacturers the reduced height sensor allows the closer proximity of on-chip lens and photodiode array so that incident light characteristics and color crosstalk were improved from the existing product.
