Spanish startup funded to develop CMOS MEMS
The company was founded in 2014 by two former executives of MEMS maker Baolab Microsystems SL (Barcelona, Spain) in senior executive positions (see DelfMEMS recruits former Baolab CEO for sales). The Nanusens CEO is Josep Montanya I Silvestre, former CTO at Baolab. The CTO is Daniel Fernandez, a former lead engineer and systems architect at Baolab. The third co-founder is Marc Llamas.
The company plans to develop CMOS-based MEMS for three products: a low-cost accelerometer for wearables and toys; a high performance accelerometer for augmented reality applications and an RF tuner circuit for use in smartphones. MEMS-based RF tuners was the application area of DelfMEMS SA (Villeneuve, France), which closed earlier this year (see RF MEMS developer closes).
Nanusens has four patents and the funding will be used to complete the proof of concept for a high-performance accelerometer and to prepare the company for production.
