Covering a frequency range from 9 kHz to 6.2 GHz and offering a real-time bandwidth of 40 MHz, RSA306 competes against much more expensive offerings from Tektronix’ competitors. All this at a weight of just 1.2 pounds (about 540 grams). In combination with Tektronix’ SignalVu PC software, the RSA306 offers advanced analysis capabilities for research and development, mobile radio network installation, interference troubleshooting and university-level education. The SignalVu-PC software represents a rather sophisticated signal analysis tool, and it is obtainable at no cost.

Being Tektronix’ first USB spectrum analyser, the RSA306 will be joined by similar instruments, the company announced. This enables users to take advantage of the availability of affordable desktop computers and laptops with sufficient processing power to handle complex test and measurement analysis along with high-speed USB 3.0 interfaces. At its introductory price point of €2,810 / GBP 2,340, the RSA306 comes significantly cheaper than conventional spectrum analysers offering comparable performance in terms of sensitivity, accuracy and dynamic range.

Due to the processing power of the PC or laptop connected, the real-time processing capability of the RSA306 is at least 1,000 times faster than spectrum analysers from other major suppliers, Tektronix claims. An open API of the SignalVu PC software allows customers to use their own custom Windows-based interface such as Matlab or Python to manipulate raw data coming from the instrument.
