Spectrum analyser offers record bandwidth
The increased bandwidth enables users to perform measurements hitherto not possible. For instance, they now can determine pulse rise and decay times of just 3 nanoseconds and measure very short pulses lengths of 8 nanoseconds, opening up new application options in automotive radar system development. Thus, users can completely survey radar chirps at bandwidths of up to 500 MHz. Another possible application would be the analysis of frequency hopping sequences in military radio systems. Developers and researchers in the area of satellite radio also can characterise the components of future transponder generations with the maximum bandwidth.
An FSW signal analyser with the 500 MHz option enables developers of RF amplifiers for mobile networks or for WiFi equipment to measure digital pre-emphasis of amplifiers for a bandwidth of up to 160 MHz as required for the Wireless LAN standard IEEE 802.11ac. Hitherto recording signals with such a large bandwidth required complex setups of a digital oscilloscope and a down converter.
The FSW-500 is available for all instruments of the FSW product family and thus for frequencies of up to 67 GHz. By default, Rohde and Schwarz intends to sell it as an option for new instruments. It is also possible to retrofit existing installations under certain conditions through the R&S field service support, the company said.
