Spirent and Telescent partner on optical switching for test lab automation
Spirent Communications has entered into a global strategic partnership with Telescent to integrate high-density optical switching into Spirent’s Velocity test lab automation portfolio. The said in a release that the collaboration aims to boost operational efficiency, improve resiliency, and optimize connectivity for AI/ML workloads.
For eeNews Europe readers, this development is notable because it addresses a growing bottleneck in AI/ML test environments: the need to dynamically reconfigure complex optical connections without manual intervention. The partnership could also offer a scalable route to reduce costs, accelerate deployments, and increase reliability in high-performance test labs and data centers.
Combining Optical Switching and Automation
Telescent is known for its Optical Circuit Switches (OCS) and automated fiber patch panels used by network and data center operators. Its robotic fiber cross-connect systems allow remote provisioning of fiber connections, cutting the need for manual patching and reducing human error. By integrating this tech with Spirent’s Velocity test lab automation, the companies aim to provide a “force multiplier” for organizations looking to streamline test infrastructure and optimize AI/ML resource connectivity.
“Our partnership with Telescent represents another great example of how Spirent is bringing innovation to automated test solutions to help companies ensure reliability, security, and performance in their operational networks,” noted Anil Kollipara, VP of Product Management at Spirent. “Furthermore, by integrating Telescent’s advanced optical switching technology with the proven test automation capabilities of our Velocity portfolio, we’re delivering a solution that will transform how organizations approach lab automation and AI/ML resource optimization. This partnership reinforces our commitment to providing comprehensive, future-ready solutions to address the evolving challenges in network infrastructure and advanced development.”
Exclusive Reseller Agreement
Under the terms of the deal, Spirent becomes the exclusive worldwide value-added reseller for Telescent’s physical layer automation solutions for lab automation customers. The combined solution, sold through Spirent’s global channels, will be supported by Spirent’s services team.
The companies expect adoption in enterprise network test labs, AI/ML laboratories, hyperscale data centers, and equipment manufacturer validation facilities. By removing manual processes, the integration promises greater operational efficiency, reduced downtime, and improved scalability.
“Partnering with Spirent represents a significant milestone in expanding the reach of our automated fiber management solutions,” said Anthony Kewitsch, CEO of Telescent. “Spirent’s extensive global presence and deep industry relationships will accelerate adoption of our technology across markets worldwide. Together, we’re enabling the next generation of network automation and flexibility.”
