ST, Geely set up SiC lab, long term supply deal
STMicroelectronics and Geely Auto have signed a long-term supply agreement for Silicon Carbide (SiC) devivces and are setting up a joint development lab in China.
ST will provide multiple Geely Auto brands with SiC power devices for mid-to-high-end battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Geely is China’s top automotive brand, selling 1.68m vehicles in 2023, with new energy vehicles under the Zeekr and Lynk & Co brands selling 480,000 units. Geely’s international brands include Volvo, Polestar and Lotus.
The joint lab will exchange information and explore automotive Electronics/Electrical (E/E) architectures such as in-vehicle infotainment, smart cockpit systems), advanced driver assistance (ADAS), and electric powertrains and battery systems.
Geely Auto has adopted ST’s third generation SiC MOSFET devices for its electric traction inverters. ST is building a joint venture 200mm SiC fab in Chongqing, China, with Sanan Optoelectronics to supply the local market from the end of 2025.
