ST workers could disrupt IC production
CAD-ST has issued a press release saying it is “very concerned” about production over the next eight months. CAD-ST states that ST is struggling to hire and retain workers as the business climate improves and that those that remain are working under a staffing gap.
The organization called on STMicroelectronics to close the staffing gap at Crolles. It said that the work force is fed up with the wage policy of recent years and that unrest and disruption has begun such as calls for union meetings in working hours. This could intensify over the coming months and could lead to a complete stop to production at the plant.
One of the big problems is that workers don’t feel they are being rewarded in line with ST’s success, CAD-ST said.
With a stronger jobs market in electronics than has existed for many years, particularly in the Isere region, CAD-ST said it has no arguments to make to discourage employees who are thinking of leaving ST.
ST has invested in production equipment for Crolles in anticipation of major product orders starting in the 3Q17.
