Stellantis and Foxconn in final stretch to partnership
Already at the beginning of the year, reports circulated about a planned joint venture between Fiat Chrysler (which has since been merged into Stellantis) and Foxconn’s parent company Hon Hai Industry. The subject at the time was the assembly of battery-electric cars for the Chinese market.
Foxconn is mainly known for its activities in the production of electronic devices and components; among others, Apple, HP and Sony are among the company’s customers. For some time now, it has become apparent that Foxconn is expanding its business base to include the assembly of electric vehicles as a service for automotive OEMs. In this regard, Foxconn achieved initial success with BEV manufacturers Fisker and Byton; the company also developed a vehicle platform for battery electric cars.
The deal with Stellantis is likely to focus on the production of a connected vehicle cockpit, according to well-informed sources.
