STM32 Software Development Kit facilitates motor-control design
Version 5.0 of ST’s Field-Oriented Control (FOC) of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) SDK has firmware libraries that align with the STM32Cube Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and Low Level (LL) architectures to ease development and test.
MC-Workbench version 5.0 has a GUI that uses the STM32CubeMX workflow to set up projects, configure peripherals, and generate initialization code automatically. It also lets users monitor and change control loop parameters in real time.
The software includes a range of algorithms for PMSM-control techniques, such as Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) to maximize efficiency and handle varying load conditions. The SDK has a Motor Profiler, to characterise most aspects of a motor quickly by automatically detecting the electrical parameters (stator resistance (Rs), inductance (Ls), and motor-voltage constant (Ke)), as well as mechanical friction and inertia.
