The GENE-WHU6 is designed to be at the heart of a wide range of use cases from AI edge computing to transportation and industrial controllers.

The small module can be powered by processors from Intel’s 8th Generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 and Celeron ranges (formerly Whiskey Lake) and support up to 64GB DDR4 SODIMM RAM.

The GENE-WHU6 sub-compact board provides full-sized functionality and has a wide range of I/O options that include 4 X USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, 2x GbE ports and up to 2 x COM ports which support RS-232/422/485. In addition, the board also features HDMI2.0, VGA and LVDS display ports. For expandability and to add further functionality, the GENE-WHU6 has a full-sized mPCIe, M.2 2280 B-Key and M.2 2230 E-Key slots.

AI and edge computing are possible when using the Intel Core processors themselves, or by the addition of AI accelerator modules, such as AAEON’s Kneron KL520 NPU modules or the AI Core X modules based around Intel’s Myriad X processors.

The GENE-WHU6 has been developed to be at the heart of embedded applications such as smart manufacturing and intelligent safety and security. It is also been designed to be tough and rugged for use in demanding conditions. As such it is possible for it to utilised in applications requiring a wide operating temperature range of 0°C – 60°C. It also is flexible in its inputm voltage with the capability to work with a supply from 9V to 36V.
