Suzuki rolls connected, Genivi-based infotainment system
The infotainment system, developed by Bosch, is always on. It embraces multiple possibilities to integrate a smartphone to the car, including MirrorLink and Apple CarPlay as well as an integrated Bluetooth hands-free kit. Audio streaming and – in Europe – Digital Audio Broadcast – complement the list of ways to bring music into the car. Sound files on the smartphone can be streamed to the infotainment system through the Bluetooth link, according to Bosch, all popular audio and video formats are supported.
The low-reflection 7” screen, the steering wheel controls and the voice control make the system more intuitive to use. Thus, the system does not need any mechanical knobs or buttons; all menu options can be reached via the touch screen. The voice-controlled navigation allows choosing CO2-optimised routing.
With the introduction of Suzuki’s new infotainment system, the carmaker is continuing its partnership with Bosch. Since the developers relied on open source software on the basis of Genivi 5.0, the development time could be reduced to less than two years. “This project has shown clearly the benefits of certified open source software,” said Manfred Baden who oversees Bosch’s Car Multimedia business.
