Swiss chip designer Kandou expands into Silicon Glen
Swiss chip designer Kandou has opened an office in Scotland with up to 20 product, test, packaging and quality engineering and supply chain roles for the next generation of USB chips.
The office in East Kilbride reflects the heritage of Silicon Glen with engineers form Motorola Semiconductors, National Semiconductor and NEC. The region is still home to a power fab owned by Diodes Inc as well as an ASIC fab owned by Semefab.
“Scotland has a rich electronics heritage, well-educated workforce and Kandou has attracted highly skilled engineers and talented professionals,” said Frank Lavety, General Manager. “Kandou’s new location is in the centre of Silicon Glen, at the heart of the electronics sector in Scotland, giving us access to a network of semiconductor fabrication and design expertise.”
The company this week announced it had secured foundry and test capacity for its Matterhorn USB4 retimer chips for PC customers for 2022.
The Matterhorn USB-C multiprotocol retimer chip with USB4 includes support for the latest high performance USB-C connectivity as well as legacy USB3.2, DisplayPort and Thunderbolt protocols for host and device applications.
Kandou has a strong IP portfolio that includes Chord signaling, adopted by the OIF and JEDEC standards organizations for interconnect technology that lower power consumption and improve the performance of chip links.
