Synopsys acquires Extreme DA
Systematic, or deterministic, variations can be attributed to a single governing principle and are usually dependent on die position and surrounding components. Random variations, such as dopant fluctuations, are more statistical in nature. Extreme DA had made this the focus of their efforts, developing tools and technologies that helped to improve performance, power consumption and yields.
They were a private company, initially funded by Lanzatech Ventures, and received second round funding in 2007.Today we learn that Synopsys has acquired them in order to “extend Synopsys’ expertise in static timing analysis and multicore software development by adding technology and engineering talent to accelerate advancements in Synopsys’ timing analysis solutions. In addition to having access to technology that can help them address Giga-scale design challenges, customers will benefit from a world-class sales support team.” The terms of the acquisition, which closed October 6, have not been disclosed.
