SYSGO now offers a Board Support Package (BSP) for the i.MX 8QuadXPlus Multisensory Enablement Kit (MEK), a platform offered by NXP for evaluation and development of i.MX 8X processors. The i.MX 8X family has been developed for critical applications in industrial automation and the automotive industry. These are also two of the main application areas for PikeOS. The new combination of NXP’s MEK development kit and SYSGO’s PikeOS 5.0 offers a complete platform for safety-critical applications that guarantees functional and cybersecurity from the ground up (Safety & Security by Design). PikeOS’ Separation Kernel provides partitioning which can complement the hardware virtualization of NXP i.MX 8X processors for a strict separation of applications. This also helps in the development of mixed-criticality designs that run critical and non-critical applications on the same hardware.

“SYSGO’s PikeOS 5 expands the capability of NXPs popular i.MX 8X family of applications processors for the high demands of critical embedded system infrastructure in industrial automation, automotive, railway and avionics,” commented Ron Martino, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Edge Processing Business, NXP Semiconductors. “Automotive and Industrial Transportation systems can leverage the hardware separation capability and safe OS to achieve reliable systems that are critical for the safety of the users.”

PikeOS allows the easy implementation of MILS concepts (Multiple Independent Layers of Security). The RTOS was designed for the strict safety and security standards of the aerospace industry from its first version. The comprehensive certification kits provided by SYSGO also support the certification of systems according to common safety and security standards such as ISO 26262 (safety for the automotive industry), DO-178B (safety for avionics), IEC 61508 (international safety standard) or Common Criteria security standards.
