The tablet application processor market was only worth a seventh of the smartphone application processor market in 1Q15 at $733 million, which represented a decline in value of 6 percent year-on-year, Strategy Analytics said.

The top five application processor vendors by revenue were: Apple, Qualcomm, Intel, MediaTek and Samsung. Apple led the tablet AP market with 28 percent revenue share, followed by Qualcomm with 19 percent revenue share and Intel with 16 percent revenue share, said Strategy Analytics

Android-based tablets accounted for over 70 percent of Intel’s total tablet application processor shipments during the quarter and Strategy Analytics said it expects the Atom X3 processor to help Intel maintain its momentum in the tablet processor market.

Baseband-integrated tablet processor shipments accounted for more than 25 percent of total tablet application processor shipments in 1Q15 with Qualcomm, MediaTek and Spreadtrum all able to supply this configuration. "We expect continued momentum for integrated APs as Intel, Rockchip and others join the bandwagon," said Stuart Robinson, an analyst with Strategy Analytics, in a statement.
