Taiwan hits Qualcomm with $773 million antitrust fine
Qualcomm has posted a statement saying it disagreed with decision and that it intends to appeal the decision, the amount of the fine and the method used to calculate it.
Taiwan’s investigation into Qualcomm started in 2015 and since then Qualcomm has collected about $13.25 billion in licensing fees and $30 billion in chip sales.
In 2015 Qualcomm finally settled with Chinese authorities that had found it be guilty of antitrust violaitons in 2013. In Februry 2015 Qualcomm agreed to pay a $975 million fine to Beijing authorities but also agreed to cut percentage rates and the basis on which they were calculated for Chinese handset vendors.
Qualcomm faces a similar fine in South Korea and is under investigation in the European Union and the United States.
