TDK to acquire Belgian sensor ASIC specialist
ICsense employs between 50 and 200 people and specializes in ASICs for MEMS interfacing as well power and battery management ICs, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converter ICs and turnkey ASICs. The company has supplied ASICs for magnetic sensors to TDK.
The acquisition is being made through TDK’s German subsidiary TDK-Micronas GmbH and ICsense will itself will be operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary and the ICsense management team will continue unchanged, TDK said.
TDK described the moves as being in support of growing its sensor and actuator business. TDK has offered pressure, temperature, current and magnetic sensors for some time and in recent months has acquired Micronas, a vendor of Hall-effect sensors and embedded motor controllers, become the largest shareholder in MEMS manufacturer Tronics Microsystems SA and is in the process of acquiring fabless MEMS company InvenSense Inc.
ICsense claims to have Europe’s largest fab-independent design group with expertise in analog, digital, mixed-signal and high-voltage IC design and since its formation in 2004 has supplied customer-exclusive ASIC solutions for the automotive, medical, industrial and consumer markets.
“Having TDK as a strong back-end partner will further enhance ICsense’s ASIC development and supply capabilities for new and existing customers,” said Bram de Muer, CEO of ICsense, in a statement issued by TDK.
