Voltech Instruments was founded in the UK in 1986, introducing a digital power analyzer. It has subsequently developed a power analyzer range and a transformer tester range. The transfer of its power analyser intellectual property, patents and product designs to Tek will mark the end of Voltech’s presence in that sector, which it will exit by the end of September 2013. Voltech has stated its intention to, “become a focussed transformer tester business dedicated to providing the very best transformer tester products and support.”

Tek has indicated that it will introduce a full new product line (of power analyzers) in the coming months, and a first announcement is expected in April. Amir Aghdaei, President, Tektronix; Danaher Group Executive comments, “Voltech’s IP combined with Tektronix’ strengths in technology innovation and development will allow us to introduce new category leading power analyzer products in the near term. This is an efficient way for us to expand our portfolio of products and to meet customers’ need for end-to-end power test and measurement solutions.”

For design engineers working to develop more energy-efficient devices or to develop electricity generation such as solar photovoltaic and wind energy, power analyzers complement other power test and measurement instrumentation, Tek says, citing its oscilloscopes, power probes, and power supplies.

As part of the technology transfer, Tektronix and Voltech have agreed to work closely over the course of 2013 and beyond to ensure a smooth transition for existing Voltech power analyzer customers. Voltech will focus on innovation in its transformer tester market and continue to offer service, repair and application support on all Voltech branded products.
