Telefonica O2 4G LTE Trial in London — backhaul behind the scenes
In this video, CBNL catches up with Rob Joyce, Head of O2’s 4G trial to provide a behind the scenes look at the superfast network. While Dr John Naylon, CTO at CBNL, explains how the company’s backhaul technology works to manage the huge data demands that 4G traffic brings.
The 4G trial is using the 2.6 GHz spectrum band for the LTE Radio Access Network, under a testing and development licence, with VectaStar operating in the 28 GHz band. CBNL’s multipoint microwave technology has enabled O2 to quickly build a network with the backhaul performance needed to evaluate how LTE operates in a dense urban environment.
VectaStar addresses an LTE market that ‘Markets and Markets’ expect to grow from $2.28 billion in 2010 to $262.05 billion in 2015, with ‘Visiongain’ forecasting $10.84 billion to be spent on LTE infrastructure in 2012 alone.
