Telefunken launches lighting subsidiary
The company based in Dreieich near Frankfurt (Main) will focus on four segments: Illuminants, light modules, luminaries, and LED-lit screens. With this product spectrum, Telefunken Licht AG plans to target private endusers, industry and municipalities as well entertainment electronics industry and architecture. The company said it plans to manufacture LED modules; in 2013 it also plans to start its own LED semiconductor production.
"In the increasingly complex lighting market we want to send out a signal through our international enterprise group and offer orientation to our customers," said Hemjö Klein, chairman of the Telefunken Licht AG supervisory board and CEO of Live Holding AG.
Klein provided an estimate that the share of LEDs in lighting applications, currently about 10%, will rise to 60% in 2020. He added that the company plans to establish global sales channels. Currently it runs sales activities in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the U.S.
