The approach is based on a completely new and unique cellular network, which is being rolled out worldwide. SIGFOX’s patented Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) technology, behind the company’s network makes it possible to operate on unlicensed frequency bands available worldwide and with fewer antennas. The long-range data transmission drastically reduces power-consumption and therefore carbon footprint and maintenance costs. Telit engages the collaboration by working with SIGFOX to develop and quickly bring to market M2M modules certified under the SIGFOX UNB network.

With existing connectivity solutions built primarily to address needs of high bandwidth devices, a large number of business cases and potential candidate users of the IoT find major limitations in pricing, energy consumption and complexity of implementation associated with traditional cellular systems. The SIGFOX network and accompanying Telit OEM module solve this by providing an out-of-the-box subscription-based low-throughput connectivity at lower prices, with lower energy consumption and leveraging very simple integration. The approach enables a larger global marketplace of connected systems. By using the eco-friendly, robust, secure, and easy to use network, customers reduce their carbon footprint while benefiting from low prices over the entire connection chain.

SIGFOX has rollout of its network in France, the Netherlands and Russia. It plans to extend coverage to over 60 countries within five years.
