A temperature compensated chip MLCC exhibits little change in capacitance versus temperature variations; hence it is used for matching purposes in filters and high frequency circuits. Component size reduction and higher mounting density are needed in wireless communications devices to support multi-band/multi-mode and an increased diversity of functions.

Meeting this need, Murata’s new GRM011 capacitor range cuts the size from the former smallest 0402M size (0.4 x 0.2 mm) to the 0201M size of 0.25 (H & W) × 0.125 mm (L). Alternatively, in EIA coding terms, the sizing is 008004.

Presently capacitance values in the range from 11 to 100 pF are available, all featuring a rated voltage of 25 Vdc. Two tolerance values are available of J (±5%) and G (±2%), and the capacitors feature a useable temperature range of -55 to 125 °C. The capacitors are C0G formulated, it being the most popular formulation of the temperature-compensating EIA Class I ceramic materials. Production begins in February 2017.
