Tessolve buys German automotive chip design house
Tessolve in India has acquired leading chip design house Dream Chip Technologies in Hannover, Germany.
The Rs 400 crore (€44.1m, $47.4m) deal will see the design house transfer from Chinese ownership. Dream Chip, with 72 staff, was bought in 2020 by Goodix of China. Last year it taped out a 10TOPS automotive AI chip with accelerators from TU Dresden and Cadence alongside an ARM Cortex-R52 based functional safety core called Alcatraz, a dual core ARM Cortex-A65 processor cluster, and an Arteris FlexNoC Network-on-Chip.
Tessolve, based in Bangalore with 3000 staff, is a division of Hero Electronix which makes the world’s largest selling motorcycle brand, Hero. The move is part of India’s move to boost its sovereign semiconductor supply chain. This move includes a fab in Gujarat and packaging plants in Gujarat and Assam.
“This acquisition solidifies our position as a top-tier semiconductor engineering firm globally with unmatched design to productisation capabilities,” said Srini Chinamilli, co-founder & CEO of Tessolve. “Dream Chip’s capabilities further strengthen our ability to take on leading edge ASIC design projects and greatly enhances our European footprint.”
Ujjwal Munjal, chairman of Tessolve, said, “With the synergy brought by Dream Chip Technologies, we are poised to become a world leader in this space with unparallelled capabilities. As major companies increasingly shift towards custom chip design, this acquisition positions us more strongly than ever to meet the growing demands of the custom chip market.”
