The eCall system test setup consists of Rohde & Schwarz’ CMW500 Wideband Radio Communication Tester and the R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator with integrated Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) simulator. Along with the CMW-KA094 software developed for this specific purpose, users can conduct reproducible end-to-end conformance tests of their modules.

In a crash, the In-vehicle system (IVS) connects to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and transmits the Minimal Data Set (MSD) which also contains the GPS coordinates of the vehicle involved in the accident. The Rohde & Schwarz test solutions allows users to test if their IVS modem successfully establishes an emergency call, transmits a correct MSD and initiates a voice connection to the emergency call centre.

The software emulates the emergency call centre and controls the CMW500 which in turn emulates a mobile radio system in the lab. The software also controls the GNSS simulator which provides the coordinates required to localise the vehicle. The CMWrun software automates the entire test procedure. Besides testing the RF interfaces and the GNSS receiver, the solution also enables users to prove the overall functional competence of the DUT.

With this test solution, Rohde & Schwarz extends its RF test expertise to the automotive sector. The setup will be on display at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the company said.
