The two companies say that the demonstration represents testing of a typical application of LTE IoT modules in a real-world scenario. The CMW290 functional radio communication tester simulates the LTE network and sets up a connection between the Sequans LTE IoT module and a server. Data is sent from the Sequans DUT to the server via the R&S CMW290. The CMW290 not only verifies the RF parameters of the LTE connection, but also data throughput and power consumption versus the LTE connectivity status. This solution enables users in development, quality management and production to comprehensively test the correct functioning of IoT modules in a defined network.

In 2015, Sequans, maker ofLTE chipsets for IoT, introduced, certified and deployed Calliope, the first LTE Category 1 chipset for the Internet of Things. By optimising Calliope to meet the performance, size, power consumption and cost requirements of the IoT market, Sequans has enabled device makers to make use of the technology advantages and longevity of LTE networks using modules that are available at sub-3G price points.

Rohde & Schwarz designed its economical R&S CMW290 functional radio communication tester to meet the requirements of integrators in the M2M/IoT sector and their mainly cost-sensitive applications. As a member of the well-established R&S CMW platform, the R&S CMW290 supports all cellular and non-cellular standards.
