The Embroidered Computer

The Embroidered Computer

By eeNews Europe

We test, try, simulate, prototype, we breadboard, solder, use a heat solder gun or a reflow oven – in almost 100% of the cases our designs end up on a green PCB that gets hidden in an enclosure. But, there are other ways to ‘embed’ electronics. Irene Posh is an artist and uses her skills to combine electronics, textiles and crafts. The embroidery computer is an 8 bit computer, but created with traditional craft technologies. On her website we can find explorations on ‘The knitted Radio’, ‘1 bit Textile’ and ‘Early Winter Night Biking Gloves’. Also have a look at ‘Crafted Logic’s to have a new look on logic gates.

The result of her work are pieces of art, but the technologies used invite us to think deeper on how we can combine everyday wearables and clothing with the world of electronics.
