Thin film solar systems as a complete package in IKEA stores
"We believe in the growth potential of the British PV market. This is why Hanergy has decided to launch its small power generation systems in the UK. Our cooperation with IKEA was only a matter of time since we share the same principles of environmental protection and sustainable development" said Jason Chow, CEO of Hanergy Global Investment & Sales Pte. Ltd.
According to the manufacturer, Hanergy rooftop units can help British households save up to 40% of their electricity bills. Eco-friendly home owners can actually make some money by selling back their unused electricity to the National Grid thanks to the feed-in-tariff (FiT) scheme.
Ikea also partnered with Hanergy earlier this year to install solar photovoltaic panels on IKEA owned buildings in China. Once complete, the solar panels will provide both 10-15 percent of all electricity needed to run IKEA stores and 100 percent of the electricity needs of IKEA distribution centres in China, saving around 6,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. In addition to helping to power IKEA operations in China, the project is also being extended to the company’s suppliers in China. The solar panels will be manufactured and installed by Hanergy over the next three years.
IKEA has a long-term goal of using 100 percent renewable energy. More than half of their buildings’ energy need now comes from renewable sources. Solar panel installations on 40 IKEA buildings in seven countries and 60 wind turbines produced 152 gigawatt hours (GWh) of "green" electricity this year, equivalent to around 12 percent of the electricity needed to run all IKEA stores and distribution centres.
