Third Silicon Catalyst, ARM startup contest opens

Silicon Catalyst has teamed up with ARM for the third time for its worldwide startup contest.

The winner will receive ARM technology credits worth $250,000, with $150,000 for the runner up. This is the same as last year, which increased the award to two companies, with the credits used a Flexible Access commercial tape-out. This could cover IP fees for a smaller embedded system or significantly contribute to the cost of a higher performance application

The contest is open to silicon startup companies that have raised a maximum of $20 million in funding and have up to $1 million of annual revenue. All the startup contest applicants  will also be considered for acceptance to the Silicon Catalyst Incubator/Accelerator

This comes as eFabless, which offered cost effective multiproject wafer runs, closed earlier this month.

“In a world where we’re seeing AI deployed everywhere from cloud to edge, there has never been a more exciting time to be a silicon startup,” said Paul Williamson, SVP and GM, IoT Line of Business at ARM. “Since its launch, ARM Flexible Access for Startups has enabled more than 160 startups to reach new heights of innovation – we look forward to seeing the creativity this year’s prize inspires.”

The winner last year was Agate Sensors, a Finnish startup revolutionizing full-spectrum imaging, enabling them to push the boundaries of spectral data accessibility. The runner up was SmartKosh Technologies from India which specializes in developing chip designs for battery-based energy storage.

“ARM is one of the leading compute platforms in the world and has been both a Silicon Catalyst Strategic Partner and In-Kind Partner since 2020. The Flexible Access program is a game-changer for startups. Through this programme, silicon startups get simplified access to a broad range of ARM’s leading IP, the ability to experiment with multiple IP before deciding which is right for their design, and no-cost access prior to manufacturing, making Flexible Access a highly valuable part of the contest prize,” said Pete Rodriguez, CEO of Silicon Catalyst.

Teams entering the startup contest will also automatically be applying to Silicon Catalyst, with the possibility to benefit from the two-year incubation and acceleration as well as the opportunity to present to the Silicon Catalyst Angel investment group and their syndication network of investment partners.

The deadline for submissions for the startup contest are at www.tfaforms.com/5170461 and close on April 25th 2025.
