Tiny pre-assembled pressure sensor fits through catheter
“French” in this context refers to a gauge system used to measure the diameter of a catheter or a cannula in medical environments. 1 French is an equivalent of about one third of a millimeter. The IntraSense product line enables pressure measurement in organs inside the body that are difficult to access, even in minimally invasive surgical procedures. Among other things, intracranial, intrauterine, endovascular and renal pressure can be measured. Furthermore, the pressure can be monitored with minimally invasive methods during glaucoma monitoring, biopsies, emergency and biliary surgeries.
Being a subsidiary of semiconductor manufacturer Elmos AG, SMI has access to in-house MEMS production facilities. Together with the unique FEA-supported electro-mechanical design, these factors enable a high quality level for SM11A sensor, which is characterized by a deviation of less than 3mmHg/hour.
Existing laparoscopic equipment can be upgraded with the wired sensor die. In addition, the product family also enables the future development of smaller medical devices. The calibrated sensor, which does not have to be manually reset by the user (the surgeon), can be integrated into existing devices or made available as a separate plug-in board.
