Tiny sensor hones temperature accuracy

Housed in a tiny 8-pin DFN package, the STS31 digital temperature sensor from Sensirion guarantees accuracy to within ±0.3°C over a temperature range of -40°C to +90°C. A low-cost version, the STS30 achieves the same accuracy over a temperature range of 0°C to +65°C. Both devices are only 0.9 mm high and occupy a footprint of 2.5 × 2.5 mm.
The temperature sensors provide a fully calibrated and linearised digital output with I²C-based communication speeds of up to 1 MHz. A supply voltage range of 2.4V to 5.5V allows the sensors to accommodate a variety of applications. Low current consumption of 2 µA typical at 1 measurement/sec also enables compatibility with a wide range of designs.
The temperature sensors can be used for demanding data-logging and temperature-compensation systems, ranging from wearable devices to automotive components. In addition, HVAC devices benefit from the sensors’ precision, power savings, and reliability.
